Korean Language Education
Department of Korean Language Education
Korean Language Education covers a broad area of focus, at once instilling in students an improved understanding of the Korean language and its mechanics, imparting the methodologies needed to effectively instruct students at the elementary level, and simultaneously addressing regional and national language concerns. Specifically, the program aims to help students to acquire a specialized knowledge of Korean phonology, grammar, semantics, poetry, novels, and children’s literature, as well as related teaching methodologies.
Furthermore, Korean Language Education encourages the preservation of the Gyeongnam dialect and literature through field studies such as investigations of the Gyeongnam dialect, folk songs and narratives, and field trips to significant sites from literary writings, while also offering students opportunities to practice standard pronunciation of the Korean language in the language laboratory.
